(Tea Party 247) – On Monday, the Navy hospital ship USNS Comfort docked in New York City to provide aide as local hospitals are faced with a deluge of coronavirus patients.
The ship was expected to treat non-coronavirus patients while hospitals treated people with COVID-19.
After just three days in the harbor, however, the 1,000-bed floating hospital had only seen three patients.
According to a new report Saturday, several patients were somehow mistakenly brought to the hospital ship USNS Comfort, which was specifically meant to be free of the highly contagious virus.
“Less than five” infected patients were reportedly transferred to the vessel sometime on Friday, according to an official who spoke with Fox News.
The 1,000-bed US Navy Ship docked at Pier 90 on the West Side of Manhattan after arriving to the island Monday. It is intended for trauma patients only.
The New York Post reported:
Anyone sent to the USNS Comfort must have a coronavirus test, but up to the point of getting on the ship, the infected patients only filled out a questionnaire and had their temperature taken as part of their screening, which did not indicate they were positive, according to Fox News.
The swab tests came back positive hours later, but risk to the hospital ship’s crew was “low,” because the new patients were isolated as part of protocols already in place, the outlet reported.
The patients arrived from the Javits Center, which has been converted to a 3,000-bed field hospital that does permit coronavirus patients. They were brought back there Saturday morning to continue their treatment, the outlet reported.
The blunder is why the US Navy ship — which has just 24 patients so far– did not want to fill all 1,000 beds on board too quickly because the risk of the virus coming on board, an official told the site.
