(Tea Party 247) – The New York Democrats are in an uproar as Governor Andrew Cuomo has been threatening them into silence over his growing COVID-19 nursing home scandal that continues to unfold.
CNN reported that one lawmaker was at home with his children when Cuomo called him, describing severe consequences should he not make certain comments.
“Gov. Cuomo called me directly on Thursday to threaten my career if I did not cover up for Melissa [DeRosa] and what she said. He tried to pressure me to issue a statement, and it was a very traumatizing experience,” New York Assemblyman Ron Kim told them.
He added that Cuomo told him “we’re in this business together and we don’t cross certain lines.”
“He said I hadn’t seen his wrath and that he can destroy me,” Kim, who represents Queens, said of the governor.
The lawmaker felt he must come forward with the threats he’d received as he found them shocking and concerning.
“No man has ever spoken to me like that in my entire life,” Kim said of their conversation. “At some point he tried to humiliate me, asking: ‘Are you a lawyer? I didn’t think so. You’re not a lawyer.’ It almost felt like in retrospect he was trying to bait me and anger me and say something inappropriate. I’m glad I didn’t.”
At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Cuomo issued an executive order which required COVID-19 positive patients be readmitted to nursing home and long-term care facilities.
These facilities, of course, are home to the most vulnerable of New Yorkers, the elderly, who would go on to die by the thousands of the novel virus.
Cuomo was busy writing a book and holding his bizarre press conferences as families lost their loved ones, and he got nominated for an Emmy as the investigation proceeded into just how severely his actions had contributed to the death of these thousands upon thousands.
Big League Politics has reported that Cuomo hid data on the impact his policy had to evade federal investigators.
“The New York Post reported that a Cuomo aide admitted as such as Democratic New York state legislators on Thursday. Secretary to the Governor Melissa DeRosa admitted that resarch related to the nursing home policy was spiked directly in response to criticism of the policy on the part of President Donald Trump,” they reported.
“He starts tweeting that we killed everyone in nursing homes,” DeRosa had said of Trump, who had tweeted about the nursing home policy in August.
“He starts going after [New Jersey Gov. Phil] Murphy, starts going after [California Gov. Gavin] Newsom, starts going after [Michigan Gov.] Gretchen Whitmer.”
“Then we were in a position where we weren’t sure if what we were going to give to the Department of Justice, or what we give to you guys, what we start saying, was going to be used against us while we weren’t sure if there was going to be an investigation.”
Kim said that DeRosa’s comments were telling and indicative of an attempt to prevent local lawmakers from gaining insight into the impact of his policies.
“[it’s] like they admitted that they were trying to dodge having any incriminating evidence that might put the administration or the [Health Department] in further trouble with the Department of Justice,” he said.
Cuomo has already lashed out at Kim after the lawmaker came forward.
“He actually used his lobbying firm to lobby on behalf of the business owners…then raised money from those business owners and continues to do so,” Cuomo said of Kim. “I believe it’s unethical, if not illegal.”
Good for Kim—it’s always worthwhile to applaud a Democrat when they stand up to their own for the right reasons.
