(Tea Party 247) – Finally, classical liberals seem to be growing some cojones!
Massively successful children’s book author, JK Rowling of Harry Potter fame, is refusing to back down after being slammed by the left for expressing support of a woman who was fired over transgender tweets.
Rowling, you may be aware, is a mega liberal of the highest order. She’s anti-Trump, anti-borders, anti-Brexit, and pro-globalism, abortion, sexual anarchy, you name it.
But apparently, even as someone as far-left as Rowling has her limits, and, like many of us, trying to stamp down on the rights of someone who says “a man cannot become a woman” is a touch too far for her.
Here’s the backstory:
Maya Forstater is a British woman who was fired from her job for tweeting out the following:
“What I am so surprised at is that smart people who I admire, who are absolutely pro-science in other areas, and champion human rights & womens rights are tying themselves in knots to avoid saying the truth that men cannot change into women (because that might hurt mens feelings).”
Sensible enough, but a termination-worthy expression of free thought for the Centre for Global Development.
Last week, an employment tribunal found that Forstater’s comments had been “not worthy of respect in a democratic society.” In other words, she deserved to be fired for her heinous thought crime.
JK Rowling, upon this conclusion to Forstater’s trial, tweeted out:
“Dress however you please. Call yourself whatever you like. Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you. Live your best life in peace and security. But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real? #IStandWithMaya #ThisIsNotADrill”
In addition to the social media dog pile Rowling was quickly buried under, GLAAD came out, claws out, to demand she apologize.
“J.K. Rowling, whose books gave kids hope that they could work together to create a better world, has now aligned herself with an anti-science ideology that denies the basic humanity of people who are transgender,” the group’s “head of talent” said in a statement, according to Variety. “Trans men, trans women and non-binary people are not a threat, and to imply otherwise puts trans people at risk. Now is the time for allies who know and support trans people to speak up and support their fundamental right to be treated equally and fairly.”
The company reached out to Rowling’s people to initiate a “dialogue” or whatever euphemism these people like to use for brow-beating someone who has sinned against the LGBT community…but they were turned down!
LGBTQ advocacy group @glaad says they reached out to @jk_rowling's PR team and offered to facilitate an off-the-record discussion between the best-selling author and members of the trans community. Rowling’s reps declined. More here: https://t.co/77D6sR8Ldm
