(Tea Party 247) – As if living in China isn’t oppressive enough, it takes serious courage to be a Christian. The communist government has been notoriously anti-Christian for decades but as DC Clothesline points out, “underground churches started blossoming even in the midst of the persecution, and eventually there were a few decades where the national government more or less tolerated unsanctioned gatherings.”
Now, the Chinese government has issued new measures that will put more restrictions on the over 100 million Christians in China, and further limit their ability to gather and worship.
A new mandate entitled “Administrative Measures for Religious Groups” has been approved by the CPC and is comprised of six chapters and 41 articles dealing with the organization, functions, offices, supervision, projects and economic administration of religious communities.
The new rules also seek to ensure that religious leaders support, promote and implement total submission to the Chinese Communist Party at all times.
According to International Christian Concern, Article 5 of the new ordinance reads that “religious organizations must adhere to the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party, observe the constitution, laws, regulations, ordinances and policies, adhere to the principle of independence and self-government, adhere to the directives on religions in China, implementing the values of socialism …”
In addition, Article 17 specifies that all religious organizations “must spread the principles and policies of the Chinese Communist Party” in everything they do.
Religious groups must also engage in “supporting the socialist system, adhering to and following the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics …,” according to the restrictions.
In essence, the Chinese government is insisting the church conform to it and where Christianity and the government contradict, they require Christians to forsake their beliefs in favor of the government. The government knows this is a trap as Christians place more value on the word of God than the worldly government they are under.
It just so happens that the signing of this new rule comes at the same time as the sentencing of underground megachurch pastor, Wang Yi. On Monday, it was announced that Yi, the lead pastor of Early Rain Covenant Church, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for “subversion of state power” and “illegally operating a business,” which, of course, are just code for “preaching the gospel.”
Pastor Yi has spoken boldly against the Chinese government and for the sake of Jesus Christ. Faithwire reports that last September “shortly before he was detained, Pastor Yi personally called on Chinese President Xi Jinping to repent of his sins and come to Jesus.” This inevitably put a giant target on Yi’s back and possibly disturbed President Jinping and his government to the point of establishing new rules against Christians.
“We believe that we have the responsibility to tell Xi Jinping that he is a sinner,” Yi said to the President in September. “The government he is leading has sinned greatly against God, for it is persecution the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, and if he does not repent, he will perish!”
Amen to that. Only the Truth will set China free from the current communist regime.
